Biography

Nitin Karmarker joins the Viridium AI board of advisers after more than 30 years at Microsoft, where he rose to Vice President of Engineering and led the teams behind some of the company’s most widely used cloud platforms. He brings deep expertise in AI, identity and security, and the large-scale distributed systems that enterprise software depends on.

Identity and security at massive user scale run through Nitin’s career. From 2009 he led the incubation work that shaped the next generation of Microsoft’s cloud directory architecture, then rebuilt the Forefront Identity Manager engineering team and built Azure Active Directory Premium from the ground up, transforming an engineering organisation from on-premises delivery to an always-on cloud service. These are products that serve hundreds of millions of people worldwide every day.

He went on to lead engineering for Microsoft Graph, Microsoft’s cloud developer platform, and for Azure DevOps Services, a globally distributed platform used by millions of developers to plan, collaborate and ship software. From 2020 to 2025 he was Vice President of Engineering for Dynamics 365 Sales and Customer Insights, Microsoft’s Customer Experience Platform and Sales/Marketing Products, overseeing large distributed teams delivering mission-critical cloud services that reimagined products for an AI-first world.

Nitin has recently retired from Microsoft. He joins Viridium AI to help build a market-leading product. He also continues to advise a select group of early-stage companies on product strategy, technical direction and building durable, scalable engineering organisations.

What he brings to Viridium AI customers

He has built enterprise platforms at global scale.

Nitin has delivered mission-critical cloud services used by millions of people. He knows what large organisations expect from software they depend on, and he will help make Viridium AI’s platform robust, reliable and ready for the demands of manufacturers and their supply chains.

He knows how to turn AI into a product.

Leading engineering teams that delivered mission-critical cloud services and reimagined products for an AI-first world gave Nitin first-hand experience of moving intelligence from a capability to something customers use every day. That guides how Viridium AI turns material data into decisions for R&D, quality and procurement teams.

Security and identity are his home ground.

His career began in cloud identity and access management. For customers who are sharing sensitive product, material and supplier information, that grounding in security and trust matters.

He knows how to build teams that scale.

From transforming a 75-person organisation to a cloud service to running large distributed teams, Nitin has built engineering cultures that deliver consistently. That will help Viridium AI grow its product and support for customers in medical device, industrial, automotive and aerospace manufacturing.
