Biography

Peter Matthews joins the Viridium AI board of advisers from a career spent at the top of the advanced manufacturing sector, advising the chief executives and boards of the companies Viridium AI is built to serve.

Peter recently retired as Managing Partner for Advanced Manufacturing and Mobility, at EY, where he was also a Senior Client Partner working across Europe, Middle East, India and Africa with companies in the sector on the issues facing their businesses. He has worked with them through global supply chain shocks, dramatic shifts in manufacturing technology and operating models, and changes in global trade. Over his career he has held senior leadership roles including Head of Market Leaders for Europe, Middle East and India, Managing Partner of Markets for the UK and Ireland, and National Industry Leader for Technology, Communications and Entertainment. He spent seven years in EY Global as a member of the Global Talent Committee and as EY’s Global Chief Learning Officer, and has a track record of running major businesses across the world.

Trained as a management consultant in organisational change and strategy, Peter has built his career on the part of transformation that technology alone never solves: getting large organisations to actually work differently. He is a Harvard-accredited executive coach and a qualified CEO coach with Meyler Campbell. That combination of commercial leadership, insight into what matters across global manufacturing and change expertise is why his perspective matters to our customers.

Peter is Chair of Gloucestershire Cricket and a Visiting Fellow at Roffey Park. He speaks regularly at business schools including Harvard, INSEAD and London Business School.

What he brings to Viridium AI customers

He knows what manufacturing executives are focused on.

Keeping production lines running, navigating geopolitical and supply chain risk, and managing production costs. Peter has advised chief executives on those pressures for years, which keeps us tied to the problems already on the board agenda.

He knows why transformation stalls.

Having watched large manufacturers adopt, and fail to adopt, new technology at close range, Peter brings a clear view of what separates a deployment that lands from one that quietly dies in a pilot.

Change is his discipline, not an afterthought.

Material intelligence changes how engineering, quality and compliance teams work, not just which system they open. Peter’s background in organisational change keeps that front of mind in how we deliver.

He has run businesses at scale.

Leading operations with turnovers in the hundreds of millions, alongside board and chair-level governance experience, he brings commercial discipline to how we grow.
